This month’s member spotlight is on Michelle Goitia, owner of JC Bump and Baby, where she provides support and guidance for expecting and new moms with prenatal and postpartum yoga. Most of us can agree that having a baby is a life changing experience. Michelle is doing incredible work to support new moms during such a transformational time. Through the pandemic she has continued to offer support and guidance via online programming to help moms stay connected.
As a young girl growing up in New Mexico, Michelle found that riding horses gave her a sense of calm; a sense of calm that she later found on my yoga mat as well.
When her daughter was born in 1998, she had not yet discovered how yoga could enhance her pregnancy. She began practicing yoga in 2000 and found that her son’s birth in 2003 was greatly impacted by the benefits of yoga as her pregnancy progressed.
This contrast between her pregnancies is what inspired her to share her experience with other women. In doing this, she’s dedicated herself to teaching prenatal & postpartum yoga, leading self-care workshops, and offering support and guidance for pregnancy and motherhood.
Read below to learn more about her insights and journey through entrepreneurship.
What does your business do and who do you do it for?
JC Bump and Baby offers support and guidance to expecting and new moms along their journey through different avenues. They have prenatal and postpartum yoga and offer self-care workshops.
Why did you start your business? Share your story.
I was working in Marketing and took my prenatal yoga teacher training. It was two weekends long with 4 days of work in between.I realized by the second weekend I needed to leave my corporate job and the day after the training I resigned.I am truly fascinated by women who are pregnant. I adore babies and helping new mothers.
What is the most common question you receive at your business?
Women often want answers from a book, website, or “app” to find out what is going on with their babies. My response is always to trust their instincts and find the answer within themselves or just by observing their babies.
What is a common question that you ask your clients?
What have you done for yourself? I ask that because it’s a way to remind them to take care of themselves first so that they can be the best mother to their children.
What has been your biggest challenge with entrepreneurship?
My biggest challenges have been finding time for all of the administrative tasks and managing my time well.
What has been your proudest moment in entrepreneurship?
My proudest moment has to be helping women find their inner strength and confidence during pregnancy, birth, and motherhood
What piece of advice do you have for anyone starting out with their own business?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help on the tasks that are not in your “zone of genius”.
When you’re not running your business, how do you spend your time?
If I am not working, I love to read, watch movies, have gym dates with my husband, play tennis (weather permitting), and walking the dog.
